Authors guidelines
When submitting an abstract, you can choose to submit a symposium or an individual (oral or poster) presentation.

SYMPOSIUM
  • A symposium consists of multiple presentations and is led by a chair; the chair of the symposium submits the abstract for the entire symposium.
  • When submitting the symposium, you will have the opportunity to submit an abstract (max. 1000 words). This abstract should contain the following information:
    • A brief description of the general topic of the symposium and the format of the symposium. You are free to suggest a format of your own choice (e.g., 3 presenters followed by a discussant; moderated panel discussion; workshop or hack-a-thon), but keep in mind that a session will have a duration of 1h20.
    • A brief description of the different presentations in the symposium.
  • When submitting the symposium, you will need to enter the names and affiliations of all authors involved in the symposium. In addition, you will need to indicate who will be presenting.

INDIVIDUAL (ORAL OR POSTER) PRESENTATION
  • You can submit an individual presentation, indicating if you would like to include your presentation in an oral session, poster session, or either.
  • When submitting an individual presentation,  you will be required to submit an abstract (max. 250 words). This abstract should contain the following information:
    • Background
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusions
  • Accepted individual oral presentations will be grouped in thematically coherent sessions by the organizers.
PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
ORAL PRESENTATION
  • Oral presentations should last 15 minutes. There will be 5 minutes for questions.
  • Presentations should be sent to the chairs of each session beforehand. The chairs are either the organizers of the symposium or the first presenters of the session.
  • As a backup, we encourage all speakers to also have their presentation on a USB stick.
  • Presentations should be put on a Windows laptop, as there may be issues when connecting MAC laptops.

POSTER PRESENTATION
When preparing your poster, please keep the following information in mind:
  • The poster boards have a vertical layout and can fit A0 size posters (width: 84cm, height: 118 cm).
  • During the poster session, please find the poster board with your presentation ID number. Your presentation ID number will be communicated in the final program.
  • Please remove your poster as soon as your poster session ends.
  • You are free to decide how to design your poster and which information to put on your poster.
Poster prizes
Since 2003, BAPS annually sponsors a prize for the best posters presented during the Annual Meeting. The purpose of the award is to foster creative poster design, to reward effective poster presentations, and to recognize the importance of poster presentations during the Annual Meeting. Posters are judged by a panel of three members appointed by the executive committee. The winners are announced at the annual meeting. The prize winners receive 200 euros each. BAPS awards three regular Best Poster Awards and one Junior Poster Award.

Best Poster Award
To be considered for the prize, a poster should fulfil the following conditions:
  • The poster must be presented during the poster session of the Annual Meeting of the Belgian Association for Psychological Sciences
  • The first author of the poster should be a BAPS member (or have applied to become member before the Annual Meeting is held)
  • The first author of the poster should have registered to the Annual Meeting at least 2 weeks in advance
  • If the first author is currently completing an Master thesis or PhD thesis, this thesis cannot be supervised by any of the three judges
  • The poster cannot be authored by any of the three judges

Junior Poster Award
In addition to the regular Best Poster Award, BAPS now offers a Best Junior Poster Award specifically designed for early-career PhD researchers.
Eligibility for Best Junior Poster Award:
  • The first author must be in their first year as a PhD student
  • The poster must describe a research or project proposal, rather than present results from an actual study
  • All other general eligibility requirements for the Best Poster Award apply (BAPS membership, registration, etc.)

Procedure
Posters in any domain of psychology will be considered by a panel of three to four judges appointed by the executive committee of BAPS. As part of the first round of selection, submitted poster abstracts will be assessed according to:
  • Soundness of methods
  • Importance of the problem for the research domain
  • Significance of the results *
The posters selected after the first round will then be assessed during the poster session according to the following criteria:
  • Clarity with which the problem (hypotheses) is (are) stated
  • Identification of important variables and factors
  • Clarity of the discussion
  • Effective use of graphs and/or tables in presenting the data *
  • Organization and neatness of the poster
  • Accuracy of spelling and grammar
By their participation, the candidates accept the general conditions of the award. For further information and correspondence, please contact us.
Criteria marked with * are not taken into consideration for the Best Junior Poster Award.
